That bastard (toadflax)

This mysterious forb with a berry-like fruit looked so familiar.

Eventually I realized the leaves looked rather like that of Bastard Toadflax (Comandra umbellata).  Mom checked it out for me in the north-central Texas flora.  Sure enough, that was it.  Here are the flowers a month earlier.  Also somewhere near Brooks, Alberta, 02 June 2014.
